Safeguarding Adults: Basics

An introduction to safeguarding adults for people who work in care — what abuse and neglect are, the six safeguarding principles, how to spot possible signs, putting the person first, and how to raise a concern. Based on the Care Act 2014, the Care and support statutory guidance, and advice from the NHS, NICE and Skills for Care. Seven short modules and a certificate assessment. This is completion of learning and gives a certificate of completion. It is NOT regulated or statutory safeguarding training, and it does not replace the safeguarding training your workplace must give you.

Dementia Awareness

Dementia touches almost every part of care work. This course helps you understand what dementia really is, how it changes the way a person thinks, feels, and communicates, and — most importantly — how to support someone living with it so they feel safe, calm, and respected. It's warm, plain, and built for real life. You'll come away understanding the person behind the dementia, and knowing the small things that make the biggest difference.

Nutrition and Hydration

Good food and drink keep people well, comfortable, and able to enjoy life — and in care, the person you support may need your help to get enough of both. This course shows you how to support eating and drinking safely and kindly, how to spot the early signs that someone isn't getting what they need, and when to raise a concern. It's plain, practical, and built around real mealtimes in real homes.

Elderly Care

Caring for older people is some of the most rewarding work there is — and some of the most important. This course helps you understand what getting older really means, how to support an older person with kindness and dignity, and how to spot the early signs that something needs attention. It's warm, practical, and built around real life: helping someone stay independent, safe, and well, for as long as possible.

Medication Awareness

Medicines help keep people well — but they have to be handled safely, and there are clear limits on what a carer can and cannot do. This course builds your awareness of how medicines work in care, what good and safe practice looks like, and exactly where your role begins and ends. It does not teach you how to give medication — that needs separate, hands-on training and sign-off from your employer. What it gives you is the understanding to support people safely, spot when something is wrong, and know when to step back and report.

Learning Disability and Autism Awareness

Every autistic person, and every person with a learning disability, is an individual — with their own strengths, likes, and ways of seeing the world. This course builds your awareness of what learning disability and autism are, how to communicate well, and how to make the small adjustments that help someone feel safe, understood, and respected. It's warm, practical, and rooted in a simple truth: get to know the person, and listen. Important: this is an awareness course. It is not the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training, and it does not replace any training your employer is legally required to provide.
